The Joey’s Gifts scholarship really helped my family and me. With a lot of kids in our family, I know my parents do everything they can to keep us all involved in sports, so this made a big difference in being able to play travel baseball.
Baseball is something I care a lot about, and being able to keep playing with my team and getting better means a lot to me. Knowing this opportunity came from Joey’s story makes it even more meaningful.I think it’s really cool that his family turned something so hard into something that helps other kids. It makes me want to keep working hard and not take any of it for granted.

Receiving the Joey’s Gifts scholarship meant a lot to my family and me. Being part of a big family, my parents do everything they can to keep us in sports, but it’s not always easy.
Baseball is something I really love, so being able to keep playing travel ball with the help of this scholarship made a big difference.
It also meant more to me because my family has gone through a loss too. My sister passed away when she was 8, and now my family gives scholarships to graduating seniors in her memory. So I understand how much something like this can really help a family.
Knowing Joey’s story and what his family is doing really sticks with me. It makes me appreciate being able to play and not take it for granted.

His Sparkling Smile
I remember meeting Joey when he was about 4 years old. It was the Christmas holidays, and I was at Cindy and Bill's house. He was so excited about the train running under the Christmas tree. His eyes were sparkling, and his smile filled the room, and my heart! I will never forget that smile...
Joey's Gifts was created by his maternal grandparents as a way to keep the memory of Joey alive in a way he would have grown to love. Raising funds to provide for children in various ways, e.g., water safety and sports scholarships, in addition to donations to animal shelters, is what Joey's Gifts is all about.

Playful and Curious
Joey had big blue eyes, a big smile, and BIG energy. He was funny, curious, kind, and mischievous all at the same time. He loved his family, sports, and animals. When he was little and would come to my house, we would also say, "Where is Joey?" knowing he was bound to get into something he probably shouldn't. He was filled with love and playfulness. Joey's Gifts is meant to represent Joey's energy and joy for life. Our mission is to teach other kids the value of safety in the water, to provide opportunities for financially challenged families to enable the kids to play on sports teams, and to support organizations that rescue animals. We hope that giving back to the community in Joey's name will allow his spirit to live on.
